Our purebred Jacob flock is dedicated to the conservation of this spectacular breed, and to production of its’ unique wool for hand spinners and use in comforters.

Located in south central Kentucky, NE of Franklin and five minutes from I65 exit 6, the Blue Ewe Jacobs flock is JSBA registered and participates in the USDA voluntary scrapie certification program.  The flock is forage based and grazes year round with free choice hay as and when needed.

Jacobs are a multi-horned, spotted sheep and one of the first breeds of sheep to be domesticated over 3,000 years ago in Syria.  Named after Jacob and the coat of many colors he made for his son Joseph, Jacobs have a medium fine fleece and lack the coarse outer coat characteristic of other primitive breeds.  Easy lambers, excellent mothers, small to medium in size, and hardy, they are extremely attractive lawn mowers that produce fine products.  Jacobs, originating from English flocks, have been in America for a little over 100 years and are listed as “threatened” by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy, although fortunately there are well organized breed conservancy organizations that work to promote and maintain the genetic diversity of the breed in the USA.
